With 25+ years of interviewing over 20,000 successful people,
Ken Rutkowski has found 5 traits that they all had.
1. Number 1 priority of living a healthy lifestyle.
You can only go so far as you take care of yourself and your body.
Make sure to sweat every day with exercises, drink at least a gallon of fresh clean water, and get enough sleep so that you wake up refreshed and rested.
Put habits in place that serve you for living a healthier life.
Use apps and your calendar to offer reminders throughout the day to take better care of yourself; i.e. drink water every hour, take a quick meditation break, and count your steps to get a daily 10k.
2. Having Morning and Evening Rituals
There is too much to keep track of every day and it is easy for things to fall through the cracks.
Successful people minimize this by having morning and evening rituals to make sure they take care of the big items each day.
Things like having an attitude of gratitude to start the day off.
Exercise and healthy breakfast for energy throughout the day.
Make sure to tackle the biggest most important rock first.
And reviewing at the end of the day to prepare for the next day.
3. Practice Delayed Gratification
Following the advice of Jerry Rice,
“Today I will do what others won’t, so tomorrow I can do what others can’t.”
The ability to focus on what is uncomfortable, even when easier options exist, develops resilience, self-discipline, and focus.
All necessary traits to have if you want to be successful.
4. Education over Entertainment
Successful people value education over entertainment, not that entertainment is not good but is there a better alternative?
Instead of a movie can you watch a documentary?
How about reading an informational book instead of zoning out on Netflix?
Can you go out and meet people of a different culture instead of your local pub?
Can you take a class at your local community college instead of molding your sofa to your backside?
Investing 1 hour a day reading a good book pays dividends that will last you a lifetime.
5. Saw themselves as uncommon.
To stand out and be successful, you first have to see yourself as standing out.
That doesn’t mean they say themselves as better, just different.
And in that difference, it gave them permission to be themselves and to follow their own path.
And inevitably that path will lead to personal and professional success.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
Well, the same thing applies to social dynamics and success.
If you keep doing what everybody else is doing, you will get what everybody else has.
The simplest way to change that is to see what everybody else is doing and do something different.
Be different, be uncommon.
I research and write about the nexus of success principles, martial arts, and entrepreneurship.
